We live in a world where we can connect instantly — by text, video call, or emoji 📱💬 — yet so many people feel deeply untouched.
Even before the pandemic, researchers were studying the effects of touch deprivation, sometimes called skin hunger. Human touch is one of our most basic needs 🤝. It helps regulate our nervous system, reduces stress hormones, and increases oxytocin — the hormone that builds trust and connection. When we don’t receive enough healthy, nurturing touch, our bodies can actually shift into a subtle state of stress.
🧘♀️ The Body Keeps the Score — Literally
When you go too long without touch, your muscles and fascia often begin to tighten 💢. Your breath becomes shallow 🌬️. You might notice an ache for comfort, but not quite know what you’re craving. It’s your body asking for connection.

✨ When you feel stressed, notice where your body tightens, and apply light pressure or tapping to that area while breathing slowly.
